I took the brand new Lamborghini Aventador for a spin at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Aux Track. The track is 1.4mi long and I finished 6 laps.First lap was a bit of a warm up as It was my first time behind the wheel, but by lap 3 I was pretty comfortable with the car.To be honest while the Aventador is a monster, with 700 hp and top speed 217 mph, the beast cannot be tamed. I found that the car slipped easily under pressure and was hard to handle in turns. Also while it looked stunning, many technical aspects were just not practical, such as the 1ft viewing height of the windshield and the non rotating paddle shifters.

Feb 20, 2012 - I drove this car here last week also. Wouldn't let change the setting from ESP...so it had a lot more to give. Agreed tho with skierzp - hard car to drive - lots of under steer. I also drove the 458 Italia around this track and on this tight layout it was a hell of a lot faster. Absolutely awesome fun though - I would do it again in a heartbeat....

Feb 21, 2012 - @skierzp Cool event... actually rotating paddle shifters are impractical. Think about making turns and not know which is up or down. you are use to the "paddle shifters" on daily drivers. If you want performance, then rotating shifters are a disaster. i have found this car amazing.. solid ride!

Mar 8, 2012 - I just booked the 458 Italia for Vegas next week and I was worried I might regret not going for the Aventador...sounds like I'm making the right choice in the Ferrari.

Feb 20, 2012 - Interesting point of view you have. In which mode were you driving- Sport or Corsa, ESP on or off? Sounded like it was restricted in revs in some way.
