The Philadelphia Zoo has been my favorite zoo since 1969, when I moved to Philadelphia just to be near the Zoo, and first became a member of the Zoo.People always tell me I am like a walking advertisement for the Zoo. And I originally created this YouTube channel to show proof of what I have always said: The Philadelphia Zoo animals have good lives. But now I am adding a second reason because the number of animals on exhibit and the number of species represented at the Zoo is slowly dwindling. When I think back over all the years I visited the Zoo, I remember so many fascinating animals that are no longer at the Zoo: aoudads, mouse deer, dik diks, Barasingha deer, gnu, oryx, sable antelope, brown bears, black bears, black rhinos, Thomson's gazelles, swift foxes, fennec foxes, timber wolves, jaguarundis, caracals, ocelots, binturongs, aardwolves, bobcats, red wolves, Pallas' cats, mandrills, chimpanzees, tapirs, trumpeter swans, snowy owls, tree kangaroos, bearded dragons, seals, babirusa, several kinds of monitor lizards, geckos, baboons ... African and Asian elephants ... the list goes on and on.Unfortunately, I don't have videos or even photos of most of the animals I mentioned above. All I have is memories of seeing them once or twice a week for many years. So my second reason for recording videos and creating this YouTube channel is to preserve the memories of all the animals I see regularly at the Zoo in a way that I can easily share with anyone and everyone who loves zoos and in a way that can also serve as a historical record of the animals in the Philadelphia Zoo from 2008 until ... well, until I stop visiting the Philadelphia Zoo at least once a week.PLEASE NOTE: I do not work or volunteer at the Philadelphia Zoo. And the thoughts and opinions I express in my video descriptions and comments are my own. They do not in any way reflect the thoughts or opinions of anyone at the Zoo.All videos (c) Merry L. One of the blue-bellied rollers in the African Savanna section of the McNeil Avian Center was in a very hoppy mood on this day. It is wonderful how close the birds come to visitors who stand still and stay quiet!
